April 23, 2008

If you are looking to remove Zango, realize that this program was installed onto your system with your consent. Zango is an entertainment website that allows you free access to its content. In order to pay for the content, Zango accepts advertising. As part of your user agreement with Zango, you agree to accept the advertising that goes with it. If you no longer wish to access Zango and enjoy their content then you can uninstall it. If you change your mind and wish to use the site again, the adware will be reinstalled.

Zango is not spyware. It does not track anything. It is adware and it is rather simple to remove. You will know if Zango is residing on your system because you will have their toolbar and possibly their icon in your system tray. The icon looks like a blue box with a greenish circle in it. You do not need an adware removal program to remove Zango from your system. Manual removal is simple. All you have to do is to go into the control panel; select remove programs and look for Zango and Media Gateway. You will need to remove both of these. At some point during the uninstall, a message box will appear that asks you to choose which programs you wish to uninstall. Check all of the boxes and continue.

Next, go to the start menu. Choose run and enter regedit in the box. Hit enter. Now choose edit, find, and enter in Zango in the box. Delete any entries that appear. Then, choose find next. Delete anything that the search finds. Continue in this manner until there are no more instances of Zango on your system. Follow the same procedure to remove Media Gateway.

Finally in order to be sure that there are no more references to Zango or Media Gateway on your system, go to start, select search and search for files and folders names Zango* and Media Gateway*. Delete anything that comes up in the search.

Reboot your system and repeat the process just to be sure that nothing was left behind. If you have problems, you can go to the Zango website and download their uninstaller. This should solve your problems.

Many free programs and websites are funded through advertising. Adware such as what is included with Zango is harmless but it can be annoying and it can take up a decent amount of your computers resources. Therefore, before you decide to download free music, programs or join free sites such as Zango; remember that there really is no free ride. There is a cost to be paid somewhere. In the case of Zango, the cost is adware. Luckily, it is relatively easy to remove Zango. Many other adware programs are much more difficult. Be careful of where you surf and what websites you allow to install software onto your system. Finally, get a good adware blocker and you will know if a website is going to cause you problems.
