McAfee Anti Spyware
McAfee Anti Spyware has been around for a while. It is one of those tried and true products. The reviews are mixed about this product. However, it is a good, solid anti-spyware program at a reasonable price. There are many reasons to consider this as part of your anti-spyware arsenal. However, there may be situations where you would want something else.
MacAfee anti-spyware has received a 7.6 out of 10 rating from CNET. That gives it a very good rating. The good point about this software is that it constantly monitors your system for spyware attacks. The biggest downfall seems to be that it does not catch or remove as many spyware attacks as other comparably priced programs. A search of the internet shows that you should be able to purchase this program from $10.00 to $20.00. It works under Windows 98/2000/Me/XP.
One good point about McAfee Anti-spyware is its ability to easily interface with other McAfee products. People who are accustomed to using McAfee products will be glad to see the familiar interface. There is no need to run periodic scans. This program scans every program you open for spyware. It will protect your system against browser hijacking, remote control Trojan horses, key loggers, and other adware, spyware, and malware.
CNET states that this program scans quickly, and if a problem is found it gives you the option of using the programs uninstall feature or McAfee can uninstall all of the program’s files for you. Scanning quickly is a huge plus. Another feature is that it removes the need for manual system scans. Again, this is a very desirable feature. Some of McAfee’s competitors take forever to scan your system. During their tests, this program found most of the spyware and adware, but there were some items it missed.
Some of the downfalls of this program, other than not detecting and removing all spyware and malware threats, is the customer support – or lack thereof by McAfee. Although they offer free email support, online support on their website is lacking. Furthermore, it seems that it is not quite as effective as some of its competitors at removing an extensive array of spyware, adware and malware. If you download a lot of programs or are online more than you are off-line, you may not be happy with this program. CNET states that the program is a solid anti-spyware program but it is not extensive.
McAfee Anti-Spyware is a solid program that will get the job done most of the time. If you are looking for an inexpensive program that can interface with your other McAfee software then this is a good choice for you. You can expect this program to detect most threats. It scans quickly, removes the need for manual scans, and picks up the most common threats to your system. These are all very desirable features in an anti-spyware program. When combined with other anti-virus and perhaps another anti-spyware program you system should be safe from all attacks.
